Tilework That Makes Me Drool

Kind of went down a rabbit hole the other day that began with me looking at Moroccan fish scale tiles (aka mermaid, scallop, or fan tile)… A few hours later I came back to consciousness and I’d poured through faux wood tile, metallic and gold tile, iridescent tile, Spanish style mosaics — you name it.

Whether you’re installing back-splashing in your kitchen or an accent panel on your bathroom wall or underneath your favorite tub, there are so many cool ways to implement tile and endless options nowadays that are artwork unto themselves. I also love the more abstract patterns and asymmetrical ways of laying it. Very cool!

So kindly enjoy some of the rabbit hole I went down and some of the favorites I pulled together - neatly organized by category for your clicking pleasure.

Starry Tilework:

The placement of the starry tilework underneath that last clawfoot bathtub is just so cool. A very good idea to compliment-but-not-cover-up those dreamy wood floors, too! This bathroom transitions us perfectly into the next section of rooms that really focused on tile placement. I love this modern blend of your tile with the rest of your flooring; it’s so cool and makes for a very different feel and flow rather than stopping your tile with a hard line.

You can’t go wrong with a classic, bold, mosaic pattern - or just by choosing a slightly adventurous color.

Can you tell I’m a sucker for the emerald green? Probably could’ve done a whole section just on dark green tilework!

These patterns and choices are definitely bold, but they all have a timelessness to me, too.
