Bohemian Rooms I'd Copy Right Now: Bright, White, + Neutral Spaces
When you think of “bohemian design” a large umbrella opens up that covers a big range of tastes. Is it someone’s gypsy caravan inspired magenta living room, with draped jewel-toned textiles and cushy floor pouf ottomans? Yes, yes it is. Is it also an urban artist’s brick wall apartment with stacks and stacks of books and makeshift furniture hanging underneath an elaborately expensive chandelier? Yes, yes it is.
The word applies more to the person creating the space than the design style itself. A “bohemian” person was traditionally and historically considered to be an artist or free-spirit of sorts; or someone at the very least whose lifestyle defied the conventional norms. A traveler, a performer, a writer. The walls of their homes becoming reflections of their lifestyles: a carefree hodgepodge of curiosities collected over a period of adventures and projects.
So what kind of bohemian are you? If you’re looking to infuse a specific style or feel into your home space I suggest playing to your interests and surrounding yourself in colors and feels that will bring you joy and make you feel the most like yourself.
Today we’ll focus on dreamy bohemian spaces that are keeping the color palette mostly simple + clean.

Because boho design style covers such a wide range - we’ll break it down in a few posts (because there are honestly just too many rooms I love to include them all in one post; and as the style goes, I pretty much love all of it.)
Don’t worry —
if you need design help I’ve included a shopping list at the end, too.
The house below is a Hawaiian indoor/outdoor bohemian dream that started as a wee little gazebo. I love how simple it is, how much beautiful light pours in, and how it’s been pieced together over time.
Notice any trends and common themes running through these dreamy spaces? Yeah, so do we! If you’re looking to create your own boho space in a neutral palette look at the elements you’re drawn to in these spaces for design + decor inspiration.
Neutral Boho Design Tips:
Mostly white/neutral walls
Lots of natural textiles/accents: wood, wicker, rattan, natural wall hangings, and lots of plants (pampas grass is huge right now, too)
books
Knick-knacks
geometric + southwestern-inspired graphics

If I had to classify what subcategory of bohemian I’d fall into - it’s probably somewhere between the artist whose mattress is on shipping pallets underneath a cool chandelier surrounded by stacks of books — and the maximalist hoarder who has funky objects all over the house.
The fun part is reigning it in and changing it up over the years as you change and grow, too.
Which one of the dreamy boho rooms here would you make yours if you could wave a magic wand and make it so? I love them all, but I think I’d be in heaven in the jungalow with the large sweeping spiral staircase.
