Indoor Outdoor At Its Finest
Growing up in Florida meant spending a considerable amount of time outdoors. My parents still live in their first home and my childhood home, a 1926 little Spanish bungalow on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Our backyard patio is an extension of the house, met with a line of French doors that are often opened up when the weather is nice and the mosquitoes are minimal.
That architectural style and any, really, that embraces the concept of an integrated indoor and outdoor living space has always appealed to me. A few spaces caught my eye the other day while delving into Old Florida style, and I ended up down a rabbit hole of incredibly dreamy modern, bohemian, and timelessly styled spaces that nailed open aire living.
Enjoy!

I love some of the water features that some of these spaces incorporate, too! I mean, look at this photo above… Little kid me would very much be jumping off of those stepping stones to play in the water. (Adult me would probably also indulge little kid me and venture into the pool to build cairns and knock them down.)

Nature is a healing space for so many of us.
To merge it with your living space is an art form that will pay dividends to your well-being.
Whether it’s big doors or windows, leaving as much greenery + wildness as you can, or artfully curating pockets, corners, and walkways that immerse you in the outdoors, this design style might be one I study the hardest if we ever plan our own home build one day!
