Jungalows, Indoor Gardens, + Living Room Rainforests We'd Copy Right Now

Let me just say it straight out and here at the beginning. I do not have a green thumb. I am the daughter and the grand-daughter of green thumbs β€” but I have not yet seen the gift pass to me. (I’m saying β€œyet” because maybe it’s an evolved gift that won’t come to me until my late thirties? This is improbable, but I can hope.)

But I’m a nature girl, through and through. I need plants or greenery in my house. At a certain point in the week, I need to be outside and surrounded by trees and flowers and water. It’s my outlet. My therapy. My church.

We have a smattering of plants throughout our house, but it’s no jungalow. My fiancΓ© is pretty much exclusively in charge of their maintenance β€” I just say nice things to them and give them encouragement to keep growing. (For a short while we were both looking after them and very quickly over-watered and killed one. Thus, a one-person watering schedule was born.)

So when I see pictures of these indoor jungles - these greenery havens - my heart goes pitter patter a bit. How fun would it be to create a little garden or a miniature rainforest inside of your space? Aside from having the cleanest indoor air on the block, you’d definitely be happier from having so much life all around you!

Here’s a collection of some of the dreamiest indoor jungles imaginable.

So swoony. I love the lamp pictured above that holds a little living terrarium inside. I did terrariums in jars and cloches one year as gifts for friends and family, and they were such a hit! They’re so easy and inexpensive - I got lots of the containers from thrift or antique stores - and they can last for years.

But if you’re truly a black-thumb like me and keeping things alive other than yourself, your children, + your pets is difficult for you like it is for me β€” check out this shoppable collection that has some artificial + faux greenery in it. A fiddle fig tree that I can’t kill? Sounds like a much more pragmatic investment for me when my fiancΓ© puts a stop-limit on living plants he has to water.

I am awed and envious.

I could probably slowly inch us towards a jungalow space like this, but it would probably have to be a mix of real + faux plants and there would definitely have to be an excel spreadsheet or a watering chart plastered somewhere to help us keep track of our plant inventory and their sunlight + watering schedule and needs! (Gold star stickers too - just to make me feel accomplished when I successfully water something + don’t kill it.)

Do any of y’all have swoon-worthy jungles in your spaces? I’d love to see pictures if they’re on your instagram, leave me a comment below so I can check it out! What’s your recipe for success or hacks that have made you a more successful plant parent?
