Dark Green Design: Dreamy Rooms + Spaces We’re Here For.

Honest talk… I don’t think there is any ‘wrong’ shade of green to bring into an interior space.

(When it comes to choosing the right shade for your space and for the rest of your surroundings - consider how warm or cool the rest of your space is and play off of that.)

While we’ll be honing in on the darker, moodier shades of green within this post - I do confess there’s something dreamy about any shade of green in an interior space. I’m here for it all…

  • Deep and lush forest green tones,

  • Emerald green and verdant jewel tones,

  • Exquisitely earthy olive-green shades

  • Soft mossy sages or seafoams

In my opinion, green can do no wrong. (It’s always been a favorite color to see layered into a home space’s walls, furniture, or accent decor.)

During one of my collegiate years I painted my bedroom a pea’ish green (almost Kermit the frog green), and in my humble opinion it looked really great against the wood flooring, and also made my funky artwork pop quite dramatically.

Add in some houseplants, an animal-print throw pillow, and some flora or fauna inspired artwork, and a green living room suddenly transforms into a dreamy and restful jungle.

Things we also like to pair with green:

  • Gold / Brass

  • More natural wood / wood elements (flooring, furniture, decor, etc.)

The space below is the quintessence of this combination! I would happily curl up with a good book here.

Just like in nature, green rooms seem to play nicely with almost every color they get layered with. Check out some more inspiration from styles that cover every range. Which is your favorite?

How dreamy is the green room with the pink couch?
Or the deep teal and royal purple jewel-toned combo in the rooms pictured above?

Either one would also look very cool with a dramatic / statement chandelier.

Ready to experiment with green but not ready to commit to the entire room to green paint?

Start small with artwork, houseplants, rugs and décor, and work your way into bigger pieces like armchairs, or a singular painted accent wall.

Green definitely lends itself well to mixing and matching items and elements together - it just depends on the vibe you’re trying to create; be it bohemian and eclectic, or a bit more refined.

It’s all about those little details that make some of these spaces truly sing.

When looking at this bedroom with the mustard gold bedspread - I love the cool transition to the lavender/purple archway and door and the tie in with the purple rug.

I also love how the second space (below) chose to carry the deep teal tone all the way across the ceiling to truly up the drama-factor and accentuate the crystal chandelier. (I’m also here for the bed trimming behind the headboard)

When choosing a color to help set the energy in the room … it is said that green corresponds with the richness of life.

It represents vitality, energy, health, restoration, and wealth. And we think any of these spaces would be nice to get lost in for some good R&R after a crazy work day.

Whether you gravitate towards the olive and pea green tones, or you want to dive deeper into the forest, emerald, and teal tones, you really can’t go wrong. Green has always been a favorite color because, truly, there are no bad shades!
