Teuta Matoshi's Gowns Are The 21st century Eliza Doolittle
I can’t tell you how many times I watched My Fair Lady as a young girl.
The film was my introduction to Audrey Hepburn, and I couldn’t have loved her, her sass, or her fabulous wardrobe more. I also loved the famous scene at Ascot, and would play a game with myself where had to decide whose dress and hat I would choose if I were asked to pick one.
But of all the pieces in the film this gown at the end was by far my favorite.
Positively dripping in beading! (You could hear it move, and could tell just by watching her walk that it must have weighed a ton.)
Do you remember the red velvet cape she wore with this dress was, too?? And the little dangly tiara in her hair??? To die for!
And do you remember the film
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
Definitely another of my favorites as a kid.
With the exception of the Child-catcher, who still scares the ever-living crap out of me, what’s not to love about Dick Van Dyke doing a flying car musical?
I couldn’t help but stare, glued to the screen smiling as I watched him sing and dance with his mile-long legs.
One of my favorite elements of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was also Miss Truly Scrumptious’ wardrobe. Her dresses were frilled, femme, and fabulous; she knew how to rock an amazingly huge hat and a bell sleeve like an absolute Queen.
Now fast-forward to the 21st century and the mid-2020s.
When I first stumbled across gown designer Teuta Matoshi a few years ago my jaw hit the floor. (My face looked like the emoji with heart eyes.)
She launched her first line only 13 years ago in 2007, but her designs are a timeless nod to some of my childhood movie favorites and just … to every fairytale gown you’ve ever envisioned in your mind… ever.
Her website has dozens of pages of gowns that I will continue to pour through, explore and ogle and drool over. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind show-stopper, you’d definitely check every box with a Matoshi gown.
Seriously. Dream closet. So much color and whimsy and femme-fabulous timelessness.

Isn’t her work amazing?!
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any more magical, it turns out her sister is also a fashion design powerhouse and - in my honest opinion - magician. (They both are!)
I’ve also written a blog post on Lirika Matoshi which you can check out by

Back to more magic from Teuta Matoshi:
It feels like Throwback Thursday looking through Matoshi’s pieces and then scrolling right into Eliza Doolittle and Truly Scrumptious.
But no lie, we’re so glad to see a designer jump fearlessly into such amazing fairytale inspired fashion!
Just like Audrey in the pink dress above, all of Teuta’s silhouettes are beyond showstoppers. Amazingly bold, feminine, and fabulous.
I am adding OWNING A TEUTA MATOSHI GOWN to my bucket list. Who’s with me?!
