More 21st Century Modern Farmhouse Feels
My longtime dream is to someday buy a cool piece of property… which will eventually mean that my dream will include building our own house one day, too!
So that means we’ll have to build something new and figure out how to incorporate different elements - be they used, weathered, reclaimed, etc., so it doesn’t feel like ‘new construction’. I’d rather live in a 100 year old farmhouse or an old craftsman… but that won’t be likely possible right out of the gate, so I’ll do my darnedest to make whatever we build feel that way!
So I’m gathering more farmhouse fodder + vibes (that’s right y’all, this ain’t my first farmhouse style-inspired post!) that mix some new construction & design elements, too. I love the timber beams and reclaimed railroad ties you see peppered into farmhouse ceilings. I love the crisp, clean palettes and timeless design that carry through so many of my favorite kitchens and living rooms. I love the mix of mod chandeliers and mid-century furniture with the wood, metal, and white.
IDK about you, but I feel like Chip & Jo would approve of all of these spaces… so I’m taking notes.

Shown above: The wood ceiling with the modern chandelier in this kitchen is so dreamy! Works wonderfully with the crisp white subway tiling. I also like the exposed shelving on the left to show off some of your nicer pieces of pottery or dishware - then also having some closed traditional cabinets to hide all of the other crazy kitchen gadgets & supplies that don’t look as neat.

Did you peep the tiling that lines the fireplace on the living room above? Subtle design accent with a cool modern feel! I’m also really digging the crispy white built-in bookcases and how they tie in with the mantel and hearth, too.

And the green courtyard space shown below? Okay maybe it’s a stretch on 21st century farmhouse… but as long as I’m here putting together ideas for my own someday-dream-home let’s put this on for good measure because IT IS SO DREAMY. Yes. Add interior greenspace/courtyard to my list of must-haves.

I’m pulling so many ideas from all these bright, light, crispy airy spaces. . . I love it! A creamy neutrally colored + designed room will always lends itself well to a restful space that’s timelessly appealing and always on trend.
Have you adventured down the home-building path? How did it go? I’m really intrigued by shipping container designs because I like the potential for the modular build-style, plus it’ll scratch my sustainability-background itch if I can reclaim + repurpose some unused ones. There are so many options for recladding the outside to take away some of the industrial vibe, too, which we’d probably do a little of! I like a little metal/industrial vibe, but probably mixed with some wood as well.
Whether you’re in the near or far-off planning (or even dreaming) stage of home building or design, I hope you’ve enjoyed some of these classic spaces!
